Type Locality and Naming

Along the Snejny Creek, Gissar Range. V.D. Saltovskaya, 1969 (403, p. 45). Stratotype along the Snejny Creek - right tributary of the Kara-Kul River.

Synonym: Snezhninskaya Suite, Снежинская св.


Lithology and Thickness

Thin-bedded limestones with nodules, lenses, and interlayers of black flint. Thickness 70-100 m.


Lithology Pattern: 
Siliceous limestone


Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Conformably overlies the Sangalt Fm

Upper contact

Overlain with erosion by the Bachauldin Fm (with Bukhara; under Gissar N&S).

Regional extent

In the form of separate strips in the southern part of the Chakylkalyan-North Gissar region on the northern slope of the Gissar Range.

Contains foraminifers - Eostaffella cf. postmosquensis Kir., E. ludmilae Raus., E. varvariensis Brazhn. et Pot., Neoarchaediscus subbaschkiricus (Reitl.), N. postrugosus (Reitl.); brachiopods - Striatifera aff. prima Serg., Spirifer bisulcatus Son., Eomarginifera schartimeensis Jan.; conodonts - Declinognathodus lateralis (Hig. et Boučk.), D. cf. noduliferus (El. et Grav.) and others; foraminifers Eostaffella pseudostruvei Raus. et Bel., Pseudostaffella antiqua Dutk. and others.

Belongs to the upper part of the Serpukhovian stage of the Lower Carboniferous - Lower Bashkirian substage of the Middle Carboniferous. (165; 439; 460).
